POLICE DEPARTMENT EMPLOYMENT

Monroe Township is one of the few civil service communities in Gloucester County, NJ.  Monroe Township has a residency requirement for the position of police officer, meaning in order to be considered for a position of police officer, you must be a resident of Monroe Township.  Being a civil service municipality, Monroe Township operates under the jurisdiction of the New Jersey Civil Service Commission (CSC).  The New Jersey CSC regulates the employment, tenure, and discharge of Monroe Township employees.

The Monroe Township Police Department is a NEW JERSEY CIVIL SERVICE COMMISSION – LAW ENFORCEMENT jurisdiction, therefore, all phases of the recruitment, selection and hiring process for entry level law enforcement positions conform to the rules and regulations established by the New Jersey Civil Service Commission and municipal ordinance. Entry-level examinations are conducted exclusively by the New Jersey CSC once every two years.
