Monroe Township is now accepting applications for a Part Time, approximately 24 hours a week (additional hours over 24 will be temporary and as needed) Records, Property and Evidence Custodian, Police Department.
Job Responsibilities
- Performs a variety of clerical, administrative, records management, and evidence control duties in support of Police Department operations. Responsibilities include computing, classifying, verifying, recording, maintaining, and retrieving information; reconciling records and documents; and performing related duties as required.
- Processes, maintains, secures, and disseminates law enforcement records in compliance with New Jersey law, Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) Security Policy requirements, Attorney General Guidelines, and departmental policies and procedures. Receives, reviews, scans, indexes, files, archives, and retrieves reports, citations, warrants, accident reports, criminal complaints, discovery requests, and other law enforcement records while ensuring accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality.
- Maintaining official police records and responding to requests for public records, discovery, subpoenas, and other authorized releases in accordance with applicable laws, court rules, and departmental procedures. Ensures confidential, restricted, and criminal justice information is protected from unauthorized disclosure.
- May be responsible for receiving, documenting, logging, storing, tracking, auditing, transferring, and releasing evidence and property while maintaining an accurate chain of custody. Assists with evidence inventories, audits, destruction procedures, and documentation in accordance with departmental policies, Attorney General Guidelines, and applicable laws.
- Provides professional customer service while interacting with police officers, civilian staff, prosecutors, courts, attorneys, outside law enforcement agencies, and members of the public. Answers telephones, responds to inquiries, prepares correspondence, processes requests, and assists with a variety of administrative functions requiring sound judgment, discretion, and attention to detail.

Work is performed primarily in a secure Police Department office environment with frequent interaction with sworn officers, civilian employees, prosecutors, courts, attorneys, outside law enforcement agencies, and the public. The position requires prolonged computer use, frequent handling of confidential records, occasional lifting and moving of files or evidence, and periodic access to evidence storage areas. Employees must successfully maintain compliance and strictly adhere to all departmental policies, Attorney General Guidelines, Security Policy requirements, and applicable federal, state, and local laws governing criminal justice information and evidence handling.

Compensation and Benefits
- Salary Range: $19.50 – $32.50

EXAMPLES OF WORK
Under direction, performs varied tasks involved in cleaning field house and playground buildings which include public rest rooms, locker rooms, playgrounds and playing field areas; does other related duties.
Dusts, sweeps, scrubs, mops and waxes floors.
Cleans restrooms.
Sweeps play areas and cleans up areas from assigned buildings.
Oversees park equipment is not damaged or lost.
Issues game equipment and its return.
Checks that doors, windows and gates are secured at closing.
Ensuring visiting residents follow rules and remain safe by monitoring the park for access, proper use and safety on public park equipment.

S.L.E.O. III Police Officers
Applicants must possess a Police Training Commission (PTC) S.L.E.O. III Certification
or be eligible to apply for a waiver.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be a resident of New Jersey and a citizen of the United States.
- Must be a retired officer in good standing who has previously served as a duly qualified, full time law enforcement officer in any municipality, county, agency of this state, bi-state agency, or federal agency, and must be living in New Jersey.
- Must be less than 65 years of age for appointment.
- Must pass a medical, psychological and drug screening prior to appointment.
- Must complete and pass a background investigation.
- Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language well and intelligently and have a high school diploma or its equivalent.
- Is of good moral character and sound body and good health.
- Must possess a valid New Jersey driver’s license.
Officers retired more than 3 years will be required to complete the Basic Course for Police Officer.

SALARY: S.L.E.O III OFFICERS START (YEAR 1) $33.80 PER HOUR
