The Depart­ment of Com­mu­nity Affairs has its office in the Pfeif­fer Com­mu­nity Cen­ter, located at Main & Blue Bell Roads. With the Township’s pop­u­la­tion at approx­i­mately 33,000 res­i­dents. Many of who belong to a vari­ety of civic, social and com­mu­nity groups, this build­ing serves as the pri­mary meet­ing space for these many groups. At last count over 150 dif­fer­ent orga­ni­za­tions use the meet­ing rooms, which hold about 30 peo­ple each and the Multi-Purpose Room that holds up to 300 peo­ple depend­ing on con­fig­u­ra­tion. The Pfeif­fer Com­mu­nity Cen­ter built in 1971 hosts every­thing from Boy & Girl Scouts to church groups. It serves as a Glouces­ter County Nutri­tion Site that feeds lunch to nearly 100 of our senior res­i­dents every day and a dance hall for chil­dren in 3rd, 4th and 5th grades on Fri­day nights. Nor­mal hours of oper­a­tion are Mon­day through Fri­day, 8AM – 9:00PM and Sat­ur­days 9AM4PM. The Depart­ment of Com­mu­nity Affairs is lead by a Direc­tor, who is appointed and serves for the term of the Mayor’s Admin­is­tra­tion. The Depart­ment fur­ther con­sists of sev­eral dif­fer­ent divi­sions and commissions.

Wednes­day Trips

    The Depart­ment of Com­mu­nity Affairs oper­ates a Com­mu­nity Trans­porta­tion (bus) Ser­vice that will shut­tle seniors to and from a Glouces­ter County Nutri­tion Pro­gram at the Pfeif­fer Cen­ter and a shop­ping shut­tle for trips to local and regional shop­ping cen­ters. Shop­ping ser­vice oper­ates Mon­day through Fri­day. Below is a ten­ta­tive list­ing of Wednes­day Senior Day trips (All trips return by 3:30PM unless indi­cated dif­fer­ently). Vet­er­ans Affairs

    The Town­ship of Mon­roe has a unique ser­vice of an Office of Vet­er­ans Affairs located at the Pfeif­fer Com­mu­nity Cen­ter. Trained vol­un­teers that pro­vide a wide range of ser­vices to area vet­er­ans staff the office. Town­ship vet­er­ans can now visit the Office of Vet­er­ans Affairs and have a photo iden­ti­fi­ca­tion card made while archiv­ing their vital doc­u­ments for easy access in the future. The Office of Vet­er­ans Affairs oper­ates every Mon­day, Wednes­day and Fri­day 11AM3PM, and by appoint­ment. Call 856–875-2207 for more information.

First National POW/MIA Memo­r­ial Park

    This nation­ally rec­og­nized site, adja­cent to the Pfeif­fer Com­mu­nity Cen­ter is the first of its kind in the nation that rec­og­nizes the sac­ri­fices of all POW’s and MIA’s from all of The United States and all Amer­i­can wars.

Social Con­cerns
In 2001 the Divi­sion of Social Con­cerns was cre­ated by ordi­nance to help the less for­tu­nate of our Town­ship. The Office of Social Con­cerns is located in the Pfi­ef­fer Com­mu­nity Cen­ter and is staffed by vol­un­teers to pro­vide infor­ma­tion and assis­tance for a vari­ety of needs. Some of the func­tions of the Divi­sion of Social Con­cerns are listed below:
  • Dis­trib­ute food and toys for tots in asso­ci­a­tion with the US Marine Corps
  • Dis­trib­ute food bas­kets to needy fam­i­lies dur­ing the hol­i­day season
  • Assist res­i­dents apply for NJSHARES and pro­vide assis­tance with util­ity bills
  • Spon­sored Cloth­ing Drive
  • Back to school bags and supplies
  • Food Bank at the Pfi­ef­fer Center
