Mike Gabbianelli started a new career as Mayor of Monroe Township at the stroke of midnight on January 1, 2003. “Retiring” in March 2002 after 25 years as a Monroe Police Officer, and rising through the ranks to Lieutenant, Mike wasted no time in getting started on the business of running the Township. During his inaugural address before a standing room only crowd, Mike set the tone for what will be his legacy and battle cry. “This Township is open for business”, was met with thundering applause. Mike’s history in Monroe dates back over 25 years when he joined the Monroe’s Police force moving south from Northern New Jersey. Mike married his high school sweetheart and has since raised two sons. He started a construction business that continues today, and still has found time to join many service and community organizations including The Rotary Club of Williamstown, The Monroe Township Business Association, Knights of Columbus, Sons of Italy, FOP, Clayton Elks, the Sunshine Foundation and the Sons of the American Legion; taking leadership positions in many of them. His commitment to the various segments of our Township’s population is obvious from his past service to youth sports and future plans for expansion of recreational and community facilities as well as his goal of expanding programs and services to our senior residents.
His platform during his campaign and mindset as Mayor is:
1. To attract new ratables that improve our quality of life, provide jobs and benefits to our town.

2. To maintain a fair and equitable tax rate that will continue services and attract new investment.

3. To protect our senior citizens and plan for their future.

4. To plan for the future by assessing where we are and where we want to go.
